East Coast & Aura Brand Solutions train wrap to remember
November 14, 2014
East Coast’s reveals the newly named locomotive 91 111 ‘For The Fallen’ in commemoration of the century anniversary of the start of WWI. The ceremony was held in Newcastle on the 14th October 2014.
The specially-designed East Coast train carries a livery filled with images, stories and tributes to regiments and people who served in the Great War across the East Coast route. Tributes paid included the 20,000 British railway workers who lost their lives after volunteering to service in 1914.
East Coast, Aura Brand Solutions and designer Paul Gentleman worked with five regiments from key locations up and down the route between London and Leeds to come up with eye catching design. The design tells a story from the Union flag representing the patriotism during the initial period of the start of the war right through to remembrance poppy fields.
"I can’t thank everyone at Aura enough for the work they did on my latest train design, For the Fallen, for East Coast.
Throughout the process I had total confidence in their approach, execution and the high quality of their work. They take a huge amount of pride in their work and it shows, 91111 looks stunning."
Paul Gentleman - Designer
The design was printed in our Lowestoft plant on 3M VHR 180-10 and finished with 8993 anti-graffiti lamination. The full train wrap, including the front of the train, was installed in London by Aura Services — the specialist rail livery installation arm of Aura Brand Solutions. The team worked closely and seamlessly with Bounds Green staff, who did some of the paintwork. The project was fully managed by Aura with the work being completed during a weekend of scheduled maintenance allowing us to avoid potential in-service availability and movement issues.
This launch of remembrance represents the first year of a four year commemoration of the events of WWI and Aura Brand Solutions are proud to have worked with such a momentous project. The event has received wide acclaim from both current Service Personnel, Depot Staff and the wider Public. A senior member of the Armed services described the event as setting “a very high bar for others commemorating the WW1 event." "This marks a unique ceremony by East Coast using a Locomotive to remember “The Fallen”. Karen Boswell, East Coast Managing Director remarked of the pride at her company's association with the event on this special occasion.
This work for remembrance is not a first for Aura Brand Solutions, having also wrapped the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight train for East Coast, donating our services for free for last year's Poppy Appeal in partnership with First Capital Connect and the Royal British Legion, along with also wrapping the Central Line tube in a poppy livery too. It doesn't stop there for Aura Brand Solutions either... in the next few days a special World War One commemorative train wrap for First Great Western will be unveiled — keep an eye out!
